Do fear and faith seem to battle it out in your mind and heart sometimes? Do the \u201cwithout warning\u201d or the \u201csuddenly\u201d moments shake your belief system and rattle your faith. Do they make you doubt? You are not alone; they affect me this way at times too. Both expressions are used in the same story in two different translations:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWithout warning, a furious storm came up on the lake and the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples woke him, saying, \u2018Lord, save us! We\u2019re going to drown!\u2019 He replied, \u2018You of little faith, why are you so afraid?\u2019 Then he rebuked the winds and waves, and it was completely calm.\u201d Matthew 8:23-26<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cSuddenly a violent storm developed, with waves so high the boat was about to be swamped. Yet Jesus continued to sleep soundly. But Jesus reprimanded them. \u201cWhy are you gripped with fear? Where is your faith?\u201d Then he stood and rebuked the storm, saying, \u201cBe still!\u201d And instantly it became perfectly calm.\u201d \u202d\u202dMatthew\u202c \u202d8\u202c:\u202d24\u202c, \u202d26\u202c<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Everything about this story feels familiar to me. The \u201csuddenly\u201d and \u201cwithout warning\u201d storms often shock you. Has that happen to you recently? Life was going great, but \u201csuddenly.\u201d You were rejoicing, but \u201cwithout warning\u201d something happened. And it causes your faith to shrink.<\/p>\n

It is easy to see the disciples were in the midst of a faith crisis. They went from great faith to little faith in a moment. They went from rejoicing over healings, powerful teaching and walking with Jesus to – \u201cOh, my, we are going to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is easy to identify with. It has happened to us all. But don\u2019t overlook the fact that Jesus responded. They may not have had \u201cgreat faith\u201d, but they knew who to call out to immediately. Their \u201clittle faith\u201d was enough. Did you get that? Their \u201clittle faith\u201d was enough! And so is yours.<\/p>\n

If your faith seems small and your fear seems great, call out to Jesus! He hears. He will immediately respond to you. He will calm the storm. He will give peace to your soul!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
