Over the years, I have learned some important lessons. But I think one of the main ones was to stop giving other people so much control over my life. We spend years letting others control our existence. We don’t follow our heart because someone is speaking into our ear, sowing seeds of doubt and fear into us. We close doors of opportunity waiting for someone to give us the okay to walk through them.
You need to take complete responsibility for your surroundings and for your current circumstances. You must allow God to be the author and finisher. That is the first step to making any changes in life.
If you are not happy with how things are going, you can do something about it. The Bible says – “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Maybe you don’t have the strength to change because you have no joy. It’s time to stop complaining and reclaim your joy. Take back what the enemy has stolen from you. Refuse to walk in self pity and doubt.
I read a quote the other day that really changed my perspective on complaining about things that I can change.
“If you aren’t changing it, then you’re choosing it.” Wow? That got me in so many ways.
Maybe some or all of the following fit your situation. It is a choice to stay in a town where you feel stuck. It is a choice to stay in a job that you hate. It is a choice to stay in a relationship that makes you miserable. You can choose to be miserable or you can choose to be happy. It’s up to you.
Stop blaming other people for your life not going as planned. Maybe your circumstances aren’t completely your fault, but if you don’t choose to change the things that you don’t like, then staying in that place of inaction IS your fault.
Once you realize that this life is yours and only yours (under submission to God, of course), then you can stop giving other people power over it. Instead of living a life of reactions, try to live a life of action.
Take control. Don’t just sit back and wait to respond to what happens to you. Instead, decide what you want and go after it. Do everything that you can to get it! You can change the temperature of your life.
Don’t just be reactive; be PROACTIVE!
